Calver 2

I am very pleased with the Calver 2. I walk 4-5 km every morning and needed to replace my years old pair of Freet Feldom. The Calver 2 are a bit more rugged and still very comfortable, great for the hills, woods and country lanes. I also like the flashes of orange against the black.

My fourth pair of Freets and second pair of Calver 2s. Fantastic shoes. The previous Calvers were wearing through on the uppers and looking a bit tired. Bought these new ones and wore them in for just a couple of days. Then I went on the Saunders Lakeland Mountain Marathon with them. Not a hint of a blister or discomfort. Brilliant shoes. Thank you.

Such a great shoe, I've had two of the original Calver and just ordered my second Calver 2.

Good grip, barefoot shoes are usually terrible on wet grass or mud but the 6mm lugs, although they reduce the ground feel a bit they really work on typical British wet slippery paths! The lugs also make the shoe a bit longer lasting and more comfortable over rough rocks - I found these great on the sharp gravel of the Camino Frances. They are actually a good compromise for trail running or hiking between something like the Altra Lone Peak and a totally minimalist shoe.

I find these very comfy, they hold the foot well with heel lock lacing in place, I have no issues walking all day in them.

OK now nothing is perfect - the toe area is a little low, so if you put a thicker insole inside you may find them cramped though they are fine as they come or with a thin one. If you are reading this Freet, another 2 or 3mm of height here would be good.

They run small, so go up a size. Again, Freet, your sizing is crazy erratic - why am I a 9 in these but a 7 in the Lundy sandals? I have to order several sizes and send some back each time I try a new shoe!

These are fairly warm, the new version is more breathable than the Calver 1, but I would love an even more breathable version - leave everything else the same but just make the top more porous. These are fine for most of the time in the UK, but they are a bit hot in Spain in summer or in a heatwave here.

If they get thoroughly wet they do take a little while longer to dry out than I would like because of this lack of breathability. But then on the plus side the fabric top is very hard wearing - for me the sole has worn out long before the top shows any signs of wear.

And Freet, please make another colour! These are very orange! A plain black version would make them more use for everyday wear.

Ok, I did my first trail marathon in Calvers'. Before that I did some training runs. Overall, I'm very pleased with shoes. Traction is excellent! The trail was very demending with lots of sharp stones and only twice I felt something. It was extremely hot so breatheble shoe was welcome especially when I had them wet during cooling down with water showers. However, I feel they were not drying fast enough. After the run my feet were wet and skin soaken - something I haven't got in other shoes (eg. Altras). Also, I think I should have taken a size larger. Although they are true to size. I measured inner sole comparing to Altra shoes which are great in length for me. Here, I feel a size bigger would do better especially shoes have very low profile in the toes section. After 30km I started to feel my toes touching front of the shoes. Maybe the heel lock didn't keep correctly or with such low profile I need larger - I decided to take next pair a size larger. Anyway, toes protection is excellent - few times it saved me :-) Overall, I'm very pleased with Calvers

These are the best trail runnings I have ever tried. I've been using barefoot trail shoes for 3 years but these Freet Calver 2 have the perfect lug for any ground (rocky or muddy), they don't slip when running down even steep hills. Definitely size up one size, even with the size chart the 37 were too small for me. I wish there was another color also, but this one is just fine ! W
