Sizing True (i)

This shoe fits true to size

The best guide for sizing your new Freet shoes is to start with your usual shoe size. Think about whether you always take this size or whether you sometimes need to go smaller or larger.

Customer feedback is that this style fits true to size; so order your normal size.

Our shoes are originally produced in EU sizes. All US sizes are the closest conversion so, if you know your EU size, you may want to consider using this.

Sizing & Fitting Help

Measuring Your Foot

Sometimes as a second check it is worth measuring your foot. Feet can be different sizes so its worth measuring both and taking the largest.

Standing next to a wall place a piece of paper against the wall. Place your foot on the paper with your heel just touching the wall.

Measuring Your Foot
  • The next stage is easier if you get someone else to help do it.
  • Take a pencil or pen and trace the outline of the foot on the paper.
  • Start at the heel.
  • Keep the pen at 90 degrees to the paper, so vertical, see diagram.
  • Don't draw under the foot.
Keep pencil verical
Taking a ruler measure the length of the outline in millimetres. This will be the exact size of the insole you will need. To ensure the fit is not tight add another 5.0 - 10.0 mm to the length. If you wear thick socks then add that thickness to the length.

Measuring your outline

If possible, please work from the EU sizes (the US and UK sizes are nearest conversions to these sizes so will not be as accurate). The lengths and widths are the dimensions of the insole in mm measured as per the picture below:

Hides easily under your existing insert. Light weight. Simple to adjust the size. My feet felt great after a long hike. Will buy more for other shoes.

Work well but not durable

Bought 2 pair last fall for trail runners - these are exactly what I needed to add protection for my feet on rocky terrain. However, they are not as durable as expected. They became brittle and started cracking after about 100 miles. Love them in my shoes so have been repairing them with nylon gear tape which is working well for now. Just know your shoes will probably outlast these rock plates. Will definitely buy again when a more durable material is available.

Rock plate 2

This product does its job. The trails I use range from mud to rock. These protected my feet nicely on sections of the trail that were loose rock. The only downside was moisture retention.

Good while they last

I bought the Rockplates for a GR11 Part-Thruhike in the Pyrenees. I used them for about 300kms. I cut them to size to fit into my Freet Feldoms (which are great by the way).
The Rockplates worked fine for a couple of days but started tearing very quickly. I taped every new crack with ducttape and they were soon covered in it.
Still they make a significant change to protection from rocks beneath the regular insole of the Feldoms, so if Freet will figure out a way to make them last longer, I would be happy to try them again.

Hi Paulina, sorry for this, and thanks for the feedback - I think the office is replacing yours. We've got a better material (less brittle) for the next generation of Rock Plate. Regards, Andrew
