Sizing True (ii)

This shoe fits true to size

The best guide for sizing your new Freet shoes is to start with your usual shoe size. Think about whether you always take this size or whether you sometimes need to go smaller or larger.

Customer feedback is that this style fits true to size; so order your normal size.

Our shoes are originally produced in EU sizes. All US sizes are the closest conversion so, if you know your EU size, you may want to consider using this.

Measuring Your Foot

Sometimes as a second check it is worth measuring your foot. Feet can be different sizes so its worth measuring both and taking the largest.

Standing next to a wall place a piece of paper against the wall. Place your foot on the paper with your heel just touching the wall.

The lengths shown are the Insole lengths (the actual shoe length will be 2 or 3 mm longer).

Measuring Your Foot
  • The next stage is easier if you get someone else to help do it.
  • Take a pencil or pen and trace the outline of the foot on the paper.
  • Start at the heel.
  • Keep the pen at 90 degrees to the paper, so vertical, see diagram.
  • Don't draw under the foot.
Keep pencil verical
Taking a ruler measure the length of the outline in millimetres. This will be the exact size of the insole you will need. To ensure the fit is not tight add another 5.0 - 10.0 mm to the length. If you wear thick socks then add that thickness to the length.

Measuring your outline

If possible, please work from the EU sizes (the US and UK sizes are nearest conversions to these sizes so will not be as accurate). The lengths and widths are the dimensions of the insole in mm measured as per the picture below:

no d-ring for gaitors

I am still waiting for the chamois with a d-ring to be able to hook gaitors to the boot.

Testing phase

Pros: very comfortable and flexible boot, aggressive tread and soles holding up well in rocks sage and cactus, minimal seams and double stitching, easy to clean debris accumulation between boot tongue and laces

Cons: like most wide toe box shoes there is plenty of room on the medial big toe side but not on the lateral small toe side, shoe laces started shredding day 3 so replaced but haven’t decided whether it was the laces or hardware, the leather loop on back of boot is unnecessary and pants hang up on it every time you sit or kneel, needs a rock plate for off trail steep descents, insoles not suitable for insulation during Rocky Mountain winters, toe of boot taking a beating in sage country but not yet ready to question durability

Suggestions: remove loop at back of boot, fit a rock plate for off trail, felt insoles for winter, more toe box width on small toe side and less on big toe side of toe box, low protective rand on front of boot

A really great model

A really great model. Beautiful, super comfortable, warm. Sturdy while keeping the flexibility and ground contact of a barefoot shoe. Super grip on slippery or rocky trails. Beautiful leather. The model is rather high on the ankle, I had to wear them about 2 weeks to make the collar flexible, but now they almost feel like slippers.

Fantastic boots

This is a great barefoot hiking boot. It has several improvements over the Impala; it has proper metal eyelets for the laces all the way up rather than leather ones part of the way; it has those 'locking' hooks that fix the laces part way up to help you get things suitably tight; and the tongue is a bit 'free-er' and fits better (I found the tongue on the Impalas really uncomfortable to start with). The soles are really grippy, same as the Impala, with just the right balance of cushioning and barefoot feel over rough ground. I love them, I just wish they came in smooth leather rather than the nubuck-type, which I find harder to look after.
