Sizing Large (ii)

This shoe fits large: consider a smaller size

The best guide for sizing your new Freet shoes is to start with your usual shoe size. Think about whether you always take this size or whether you sometimes need to go smaller or larger.

Customer feedback is that this style fits large to size; if you sometimes have to go down a size, it is more likely that you may need to go down a size with this style.

Our shoes are originally produced in EU sizes. All US sizes are the closest conversion so, if you know your EU size, you may want to consider using this.

Measuring Your Foot

Sometimes as a second check it is worth measuring your foot. Feet can be different sizes so its worth measuring both and taking the largest.

Standing next to a wall place a piece of paper against the wall. Place your foot on the paper with your heel just touching the wall.

Measuring Your Foot
  • The next stage is easier if you get someone else to help do it.
  • Take a pencil or pen and trace the outline of the foot on the paper.
  • Start at the heel.
  • Keep the pen at 90 degrees to the paper, so vertical, see diagram.
  • Don't draw under the foot.
Keep pencil verical
Taking a ruler measure the length of the outline in millimetres. This will be the exact size of the insole you will need. To ensure the fit is not tight add another 5.0 - 10.0 mm to the length. If you wear thick socks then add that thickness to the length.
Measuring your outline

If possible, please work from the EU sizes (the US and UK sizes are nearest conversions to these sizes so will not be as accurate). The lengths and widths are the dimensions of the insole in mm measured as per the picture below:

Very happy with my Kelds

Very happy with my Kelds. I bought a pair of Richmonds first a little while ago, then went with some Vivo similar look but black, and these two pairs are great for smart, but this was the last step to (practically) full conversion to barefoot. Being a 6'2" ish man (and not a skinny light stick insect) I've had back problems for a little while. Nothing serious, but just aching back every now and again. Since I started with barefoot shoes I've only had any back problems once, and that was the day I went back to regular shoes for a particularly smart occasion -I ended up not being able to driveI had such bad back pain. So now, I just accept that I might look a little clumpy in my barefoot shoes, because really, life without back ache is worth a few people thinking I like a bit clumpy.
Specifically, these Kelds are nice, they're the most barefoot of the shoes I've got so far, and I think my feet are still adapting to them, but I love how airy they feel. I bought them to replace both my trainers and my sandals, both of which weren't barefoot and were falling apart. I love them for both. I've cycled and walked in then and both are comfortable. I still have a pair a good quality non-barefoot walking boots for mountains, but I will wear these for anything less than that (and possibly even mountains in summer). Basically, anything that is not smart, I wear these. Plus, I kicked myself for not buying the elastic laces with them, but once I got them they're stretchy enough to leave the laces done up and just slip on and off anyway!

I actually liked it.

I got a pair of Kelds about a year ago, and they honestly have performed really well. The best equivalent for anyone that hasn't had shoes like this is that they feel like high-tech slippers that look like shoes. Of course, though, us humans have turned all our walking surfaces into some form or another of rock, so because these are thin minimalist shoes, running requires a completely different form and while I was learning to run properly in these, I ended up with a bit of foot pain. My only other complaint is that within about a month, the little textured spots on the bottom wore off and it had perfect grip on concrete and almost none on dirt. But overall, I liked it. Additionally, despite being so thin, the sole has held up, and after a year, I've only worn halfway through the 3 mm bumps on the bottom.

Very comfortable and breathable.

These are my favourite pair of Freets I've bought so far. They are comfortable and feel quite minimal on my feet.

Quality product

Well built and comfortable. Apparently they come up small but for me they come up big (normally a 9, went for 8 and they fit will). The insole takes a little getting used to as it’s like a honeycomb type design but you can feel it on your feet
